A Spring Valley pilot is recovering in the hospital Friday after he crash landed a Coast Guard plane in New Jersey.
Yakov Rosenberg, a Monsey resident, says he was in a Coast Guard Auxiliary plane when the craft lost power Thursday.
Rosenberg says he was able to guide the plane away from houses and people on the ground before crashing into several trees on land.
Rosenberg and an unidentified person on the were seriously plane hurt. Officials say no one on the ground was injured.
Rosenberg says he is an active Chaverim, an emergency services agency in the Orthodox Jewish community.
He says he has dedicated his services to the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
He is being hailed a hero by his neighbors for his actions in protecting residents on the ground during the crash.
Rosenberg is currently listed in stable condition at a New Jersey hospital and is expected to survive.
