A Spring Valley pilot who has been hailed a hero is back home after crash landing a Coast Guard Auxiliary plane earlier this month.

As News 12 reported, Yakov Rosenberg, a 10-year veteran of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, was on a routine patrol with a spotter when his small plane experienced engine trouble. Rosenberg tried heading to the airport, but the engine died and he was forced to look for an open field to land the plane. 

"I had a gorgeous big field," said Rosenberg. "I would have had the perfect landing on that field, except when I did a turn to come in for a landing, I saw it was full of kids." 

Rosenberg ended up landing the plane on the edge of the field, slamming into some trees. He badly injured both legs and will need more surgery before he can walk again, but he is out of the hospital and back at home with his family. 

Rosenberg's passenger in the plane was also seriously injured during the landing, but he has since been released from the hospital.
