A Rockland County firefighter spent his birthday this week pulling off an amazing rescue.
Spring Valley firefighter Evan Humphrey celebrated his 42nd birthday with a toddler in his arms.
Firefighters say they got the call for a fire around 1 p.m. at Country Village Towers on Kennedy Drive.
It is not known how the fire started, but four people were sent to the hospital and nearly 100 people won't be able to go home for at least several days.
What could've been a tragedy turned into victory when Humphrey rescued a family from their seventh-floor balcony.
He carried a 2-year-old down the stairs and out to safety.
Humphrey says he couldn't help but think of his nieces and nephews. He added that he was one of many firefighters rescuing people with the same dedication.
