A sports dome in Mount Vernon collapsed Saturday, seemingly under the weight of heavy snow.
The incident occurred at the Sports Underdome on Garden Avenue around 4 p.m.
The massive, inflatable sports dome houses four sports fields. News 12 is told that the bubble has collapsed on several other occasions.
Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas says he's tasked his building's commissioner to contact the Sports Underdome and investigate what exactly caused the collapse.
"They apparently didn't have a snow plan and this type of a collapse, of an incident in our city is unacceptable," Thomas says. "If it could be prevented, as you can see next door by the responsible management by the Ice Hutch, that's the type of relationship businesses should have with our city."
There were no injuries reported.
The owners of the Sports Underdome say repair work is already underway and they hope to have the complex up and running again by the end of the week.
NOTE: News 12 was told earlier that the incident occurred at the Ice Hutch skating rink, which is a neighboring facility to the Sports Underdome.
