yesterdayTwo dogs who were rescued by the International Humane Society from a South Korean meat farm are getting a chance at a new life in Westchester County.
Pablo and Parker, two young mixed breeds, are scheduled to arrive at the SPCA Westchester’s Rescue Center Wednesday, where they will receive immediate veterinary care.
According to records, Pablo suffered fractured teeth and Parker has facial scarring. While it is unknown how the dogs' injuries were sustained, Pablo, Parker and dozens of others were trapped in feces, covered cages and slated for slaughter.
The rescue comes on the heels of a historic ruling by the South Korean government, which passed a bill on Jan. 9, 2024, banning the breeding and slaughter of dogs for consumption.
"We're told that these innocent dogs appear to be very trusting and have not lost their faith in people, which is remarkable considering all that they've endured," says Shannon Laukhuf, SPCA Westchester's executive director.
