Spano: Yonkers ‘Safe Stop’ program captured nearly 500 violations since launch

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano says the city’s “Safe Stop” school bus safety program has captured hundreds of violations since its launch. The city is issuing warnings for violations, but those caught illegally passing a school bus will receive heavy fines starting on Nov. 13.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano on Friday announced the city’s “Safe Stop” school bus safety program has captured hundreds of violations since its launch.
Last Thursday, nearly 200 Yonkers school district buses were installed with safety cameras. The cameras have captured almost 500 incidents on video of drivers passing a school bus with the stop arm extended.
The city is issuing warnings for violations, but on Nov. 13th those caught illegally passing a school bus will receive heavy fines.
