A beloved sign welcoming people to Flanders was damaged - and Southampton police are looking for whoever did it.
"Why are you going after this sign? Can you please leave our signs alone?" said Angela Huneault, president of the Flanders, Riverside & Northampton Community Association.
Community leaders and police said it is the same sign that was stolen in February 2023 and replaced.
Southampton police said the "Welcome to Flanders" sign on CR 104 and Pleasure Drive was damaged in the last few days. They say the sign for Pleasure Drive was also taken.
Ron Fisher, a Flanders native and owner of the company that made both signs, said they put measures in place to safeguard the new sign.
Fisher said that included putting longer posts deeper into the ground so they couldn't be removed easily and lowering the sign.
He said he is stunned the measures didn't work.
"It is crazy. I'm so disappointed that this keeps happening to them. I'm going to redo the sign as many times as i have to, these vandals will not win." said Ron Fisher, owner of Fisher Signs & Shirts.
Southampton Town detectives are asking the public to help identify whoever is responsible.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Detective Division at 631-702-2230.
