A rambunctious seal is resting comfortably at the New York Marine Rescue Center after making its rounds in Southampton early Sunday.
The grey seal was able to climb up a fish ladder out of the Peconic River and made it all the way to Riverhead.
Dispatchers received calls around 6:31 a.m. about the seal first spotted off Woodhull Road in the Thrifty Beverage parking lot.
"When we did hear the call, we were like this cannot be true," says Lt. Susan Ralph, of the Southampton Town Police.
The 3-month-old seal then fled southwest toward the Budget Host Hotel.
Patrol officers eventually got a hold of the harbor seal, which is now in the custody of the New York Marine Rescue Center.
Workers at the New York Marine Rescue Center say he is doing OK and will hopefully be able to be released into the wild as soon as possible.
The Southampton Police Department posted some pictures of the seal's Southampton adventure.
