Time changes many things. 

In South Blooming Grove, longtime residents say the village is changing fast with an influx of residents from the Town of Palm Tree.  

One example is a house at 5 Mangin Road that’s been around since colonial times, but its new owner has other plans.  

News 12 has learned that village leaders are considering an application to turn the 247-year-old home into the site of Kosher food store.  

A special use application was discussed in a public meeting last Tuesday.  

News 12 tried to get a recording of the meeting for information, but the village clerk said it's not available to the public. 

Village leaders wouldn't comment on the proposal and said to watch the meeting for information. 

Residents say the plan to commercialize the property, that’s been there since 1775, would require demolishing the house.  

It was once farmers' quarters on a 400-acre dairy farm that included a second, larger house across the street.  

Online county records show Roth Joel purchased the home in 2021 for $625,000.  

News 12 tried getting in touch with Joel at the house, but people News 12 saw outside went in and didn’t answer when News 12 knocked at the door. 

Residents News 12 spoke to off camera say the plans jeopardizes an irreplaceable part of American history.  

Another public meeting about the future of the historic home will be held on July 21.
