Sources: Yonkers detective injured in shooting recovering from surgery

Sources tell News 12 that Yonkers Det. Brian Menton, who was injured in a shooting Wednesday, is now recuperating from surgery.
News 12 did a story on Menton back in Sept. 2020 when the Yonkers Police Department honored him for a heroic act. Menton was among the officers who jumped into the line of fire during a shooting. He helped tackle the suspect with other officers and took the suspect into custody.
Menton was also honored back in 2011 for his work on a task force that took down violent gangs in Yonkers.
Det. Menton has been on the force for 27 years and is set to retire next week.
Sources also say that Menton has a twin brother who serves with him on the federal task force that was involved in Wednesday's shooting. Police say the shooting happened inside a bodega near Elm and Linden streets around 2 p.m. Police say the task force engaged with the suspects in front of the bodega. The suspects then went inside the bodega. Police say Menton was shot by one of the suspects, who died from his injuries after he was shot by an FBI agent.
Menton is recovering at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi from a gunshot wound to the stomach.
