New York City Mayor Eric Adams has made a decision and will likely drop out of the mayoral race by the end of this week, two sources told News 12’s Tara Rosenblum.
Adams' spokesperson Todd Shapiro responded by saying the mayor is "in this race to win it."
“Let me be perfectly clear: any rumor or tweet suggesting Mayor Adams is stepping down this week is complete bullsh*t. These lies are being spread by desperate opponents who can’t match the mayor’s record, his campaign energy, or his support across this city. The truth is Mayor Adams has more than 20 events scheduled this weekend alone, including major rallies and community stops, plus dozens of fundraisers lined up. The campaign is alive, strong, and fully engaged — just like the mayor himself. Eric Adams is in this race to win it, and no amount of fake chatter or political spin will change that.”
Earlier this month, Adams declared his intention to stay in the race at the end of a fraught week that began with a trip to Florida, where Trump administration intermediaries sought to assess his willingness to quit the race to take a job with the federal government.
Adams appeared to leave the door open to a departure, releasing a statement saying he “will always listen if called to serve our country” but adding he had not yet received any “formal offers.”
Hours later, he summoned reporters to the mayor’s official residence, Gracie Mansion, to slam that door back shut.
“I am in this race. And I am the only one who can beat Mamdani," Adams said.
