Police say a man who fired shots at officers during a barricade situation in Croton has died.
State police responded to a residence on Quaker Bridge Road around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday for a person barricaded inside with a gun, according to authorities.
Authorities say negotiators tried for almost 12 hours to get 50-year-old Christopher Pesavento to peacefully surrender. Pesavento fired gunshots at police from inside, they say, striking two Westchester officers.
Police say it was determined just after midnight that Pesavento was dead. No shots were fired by law enforcement, they say, though other methods were used as police tried to get him to surrender.
The two injured officers were taken to a hospital for treatment and have since been released.
The Westchester Medical Examiner’s Office will determine a cause of death for Pesavento.
News 12 has learned that Pesavento retired last year as a lieutenant after 25 years with the Greenville Fire Department. He also volunteered with the Croton Fire Department.
