A high-speed police pursuit in Orange County ended Thursday night with the arrest of a wanted suspect on parole. It unfolded in a quiet, rural neighborhood in Circleville.
Video obtained by News 12 shows that the pursuit began in Ellenville, which is a span of 20 miles.
Authorities chased the man down Crystal Run Road and Goshen Turnpike to Susan Lane, a dead-end road, at speeds up to 100 mph, according to police radio transmissions obtained by News 12.
A neighbor gave News 12 video of the police activity in their driveway near where the pursuit ended.
“The dogs started barking and when we looked outside, we saw these lights in the driveway and police cars,” says the woman.
A top law enforcement source tells News 12 the suspect was wanted for robbing the food mart at the Citgo gas station in Pine Bush at gunpoint on Wednesday and for stealing a car Thursday night at gunpoint in Ellenville.
The suspect is identified by the official as Darryl Conklin, a 40-year-old on parole since 2024 for robbery.
Police are heard on radio recordings during the incident saying the suspect ran into the woods and was arrested after being tased near the playground at Pakanasink Elementary School.
“Cops were just flying by. It was about 20 of them,” says another neighbor. “We saw them going in the woods.”
News 12 is told the FBI has taken over the case. We have calls out to them and Ellenville police for more information.
