Students and families took part in the eighth annual “Souper Bowl” food drive as Archbishop Stepinac High School held its community event in White Plains.
Elmsford‑based Todd Elementary School and Alice E. Grady Elementary School participated for the first time. Representatives with Feeding Westchester estimated that all three schools might reach the 10,000‑pound mark once everything is weighed and collected. Last year’s total was 9,400 pounds. Stepinac alone donated more than 7,000 pounds of food.
Donations included nonperishable items such as canned goods and ramen noodles.
Students said the effort is especially important at this time of year. “Today’s event is rooted in so much love. Love for our community and appreciation for our community, that’s why we were able to come out and donate this amount of food. Above all else, this is a movement that is rooted in love,” senior Elden Agee said.
The food will be distributed to community partners through Feeding Westchester.
