A surprise sendoff was held today for a soldier from Greenburgh who is about to be deployed to Afghanistan.
Army Lt. Mike Rappe, 23, was given the sendoff by his hockey team, the White Plains Plainsmen.
The team presented him with a jersey with his number on it to take with him while in Afghanistan, along with dozens of letters to start him on his journey.
"I was just overwhelmed, I didn't know what to do... speechless," said Rappe.
While Rappe won't deploy until early next year, his family is cherishing this Christmas with him since he will be gone so long.
"I don't think he's going to be back next year so it makes it a very special Christmas," said his father, Michael Rappe.
