New York City transit workers are taking their grievances to the street Wednesday as part of a Day of Outrage, fueling rumors of a transportation slowdown.

Although text messages sent by Transit Workers' Union members discussing a bus and train slowdown were leaked out, the TWU denies any such directive and says that type of job action is unlawful.

Some 38,000 members of the TWU Local 100 will hold rallies at bus depots across the city, protesting the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's decision to renege on an 11 percent raise promised to workers by an arbitration panel.

The MTA insists it cannot afford to pay higher labor costs at this time.
