A teenager is facing murder charges in the stabbing death of another teen, according to police in Sleepy Hollow.
Investigators say Berinzon Moronta, 16, has been charged with second-degree murder for killing 17-year-old Tahj Robinson during a confrontation on Friday night in Barnhart Park.
A former classmate says Robinson was a student at Sleepy Hollow Middle School before he moved away to New Jersey. He is remembered among his classmates for being popular, funny, an avid athlete and aspiring musician.
A makeshift memorial has sprung up at Barnhart Park for Robinson, and friends tell News 12 that they have been overcome with emotion at seeing a life so senselessly lost.
Sleepy Hollow High School's homecoming was due to be held on Saturday, but all activities, including the game, were canceled in the wake of the incident.
Interim Superintendent Dr. Daniel McCann says in a statement, "This is devastating news and a shock to our community but we will join forces to ensure that our students feel safe and unharmed."
Moronta remains in custody in the Westchester County Department of Corrections.
Grief counselors will be on hand to help students when classes resume Tuesday. Students took to social media to ask those who knew Robinson to wear black in his honor.
