The recount in the mayoral election in Sleepy Hollow has come to a grinding halt after voting machines could not be verified.
Republican incumbent Mayor Philip Zegarelli was only 29 votes ahead of his Democratic opponent, Thomas Capossela, on election night. Capossela asked for a recount, but then a snag developed when no one could properly identify which machine was used in each district. Election officials say paperwork that would have identified the machines was misplaced.
Now the recount goes back to the Westchester County Board of Elections commissioners to determine if those voting machines can be reopened for a final vote count.
