A Yonkers mother is demanding answers after her special-needs son slipped out of school unnoticed and walked home by himself.
Jeremy Melendez, 7, had gone to the nurse Wednesday at Martin Luther King Junior Elementary School, and the nurse called his mother to come pick him up. Fifteen minutes later, his mother Valerie Perez says he had shown up at their apartment by himself. Perez says he had literally taken it upon himself when the nurse told him he was going home.
Jeremy crossed a busy intersection to walk the two blocks home. Perez says she wants to know how he managed to leave school.
The school superintendent says the district is taking a closer look at its security procedures.
