A winter storm that could bring 6 to 12 inches of snow plus extreme cold to the Hudson Valley is still two days out, but people are already running out to get the bread and milk.
Area grocery stores were busy Thursday with shoppers looking to grab all the staples needed to hunker down as the storm hits.
Department of Public Works officials are stressing folks should stay off the roads Sunday into Monday when the storm is expected to hit. The concern is not only the snow but a possible layer of ice underneath.
Grocery store owners tell News12 they've adjusted their shipments and upped inventory on certain items but all the popular essentials such as eggs, milk and bread along with shovels and ice melt will start to go quickly as we get closer to Sunday.
Store owners say they expect to be busy between now and up to when the storm hits so it's best to get any shopping done early.
