Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard has secured reelection in Mount Vernon, making history in the process.

Patterson-Howard, a Democrat, ran unopposed in this year's election, but her victory is noteworthy as she becomes the first mayor of Mount Vernon to be reelected since Ernie Davis was elected to three four-year terms in 1996-2007

In a Facebook Live session, Patterson expressed her joy at being reelected and noted that she is already actively pursuing initiatives at local, state, and federal levels in her second term.

She stated, "Right now I am participating in a smart cities conference, where we're looking to bring cutting edge technology and innovative ideas around economic development, affordable and inclusive housing, and technology back to Mount Vernon."
