The National Sexual Assault Hotline is reporting a 201 percent increase in calls since Thursday's Senate Judiciary Committee
hearing on sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
The Putnam County Women's Center says people have been calling about their own experiences since Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's testimony in which she alleged that Kavanaugh assaulted her in the early 1980s.
Advocates say that recognizing a moment such as sexual assault can trigger a time in someone's life that made them feel unsafe or that no one would believe them. So they want people to know that the center is there for them 24 hours a day.
Once a call is made, a case manager asks detailed questions and puts together a safety plan.
