Several people were detained on Tuesday after a pursuit that started in Yonkers ended in the Bronx.
Yonkers police said the incident began around 3:30 p.m., when a patrol car from the 1st Precinct saw a vehicle near Tuckahoe Road and Ridge Hill Boulevard.
It was believed to be connected to a reported vehicle theft.
Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled.
This led to a pursuit that ended on the Bronx River Parkway, when the vehicle encountered traffic and struck multiple vehicles.
The crash caused the suspect vehicle to catch on fire.
Officers on scene from the New York City Police Department identified the vehicle that was on fire as a Honda minivan. It later got towed away.
Yonkers police said several people fled from the suspect vehicle. Some were detained nearby.
They said no injuries were reported, but Wendy Holness-Mackenzie, a woman at the scene, said her husband was sent to the hospital as a result of the incident.
"He says that he has a lot of pain in his back and his legs," Holness-Mackenzie said. "I came to get my stuff out the car and [I'm] going to go see him now."
