A number of reported incidents regarding children and strangers has Ossining residents concerned.
Ossining police are sounding the alarm after three fifth graders were targeted in separate incidents.
"They made reference to an individual that they have apprehended that had exposed themselves to some of our fifth-grade students,” said Ossining School District Superintendent Dr. Ray Sanchez. “And then more recently, there was an incident involving an adult attempting to lure a child."
Police have arrested a 41-year-old Ossining man and charged him with endangering the welfare of a child. Police say he's responsible for two of the incidents. He's since been released without bail.
“This is uncommon, but nonetheless, it just heightens our awareness,” added Sanchez.
A different person could be responsible for the third incident. Police say a man in a car drove up to a child who was walking home on Croton Avenue. They say he tried to get the child into the car by saying a parent had given permission. But the child immediately ran home to tell an adult, according to police.
All three incidents were reported by the students to their parents who then took matters to the school.
Ossining police assured parents there are undercover officers on patrol as students go to and from school. They are urging anyone who sees something to say something.
Police are asking residents or business owners on Croton Avenue between Roosevelt School and Dale Avenue who have security cameras to keep a close eye out.
Police are asking anyone with information to call 914-941-4099.
