Friends and family said their final goodbyes Saturday to a kayaker who was allegedly killed in the Hudson River by his then-fiancee.
According to police, 46-year-old Vincent Viafore was on a kayaking trip April 19 with Angelika Graswald, 35, when she killed him by tampering with his kayak and paddle.
Investigators say Graswald watched the victim drown and later tried to make the death look like an accident.
Viafore's body was discovered a month later and Graswald was charged with second-degree murder.
Viafore was remembered Saturday at the Church of Saint Martin De Porres in his hometown of Poughkeepsie. Family members of the victim say they will be burying his ashes.
Prosecutors say that Graswald was hoping to collect on a $250,000 life insurance policy.
