Dozens of Westchester seniors were recognized for their community service Friday at the 32nd annual Westchester Senior Citizens Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
The ceremony took place at the Marriott Hotel in Tarrytown.
Among the 47 seniors from Westchester inducted was 95-year-old Seymour "Sy" Scharf, of Hartsdale. Scharf earned the top spot in their year's class through his decades of work with the community.
Scharf has not lost his sense of humor. "I told my dentist a couple of weeks ago, 'I'm getting a new plaque.' He says, 'Tell 'em to keep it because you already have enough in your mouth.'"
Barrington Wright, of Bronxville, also received special recognition for his outstanding community service.
"I'm excited and feel privileged. It was an unexpected gift," said Wright.
