Sen. Skoufis announces $750,000 grant to local vet organizations
State Sen. James Skoufis announced on Tuesday that over $750,000 in new
grant funding will be provided to Veteran of Foreign Wars and American Legion
posts throughout Orange County.
Sen. Skoufis was joined by local veteran
organizations to announce the grants to 16 posts. Each post will get $50,000 to
do repairs.
This could include upgrades to meet requirements
of the Americans for Disability Act or just making long-needed repairs.
"If you shut a place like this down for two years, members leave, the community forgets. I literally had one week's finances to keep this place open, so it's been a struggle, " says Tom Stupin, the American Legion Post 488 Commander.
Officials say the funding may be the largest single investment in local veteran membership groups.
