Eleventh and 12th grade students at Poughkeepsie High School returned to school today, but not at the same time.
Poughkeepsie City school district says the junior class returned for the first half of the day. The seniors return afterward, as the juniors head home.
Following the gunfire just outside of the school Monday afternoon, this gradual return to the high school is an approach that administrators are using to give students and staff the physical and emotional attention they need.
"With the incident that has taken place on Forbus Street, there has been a lot of trauma that has been developed. Not only among our students and parents but among our staff. So, we wanted to take the time to make sure. So, we wanted to make sure our staff were in a good place," said Dr. Eric Rosser, superintendent of the Poughkeepsie City school district

Rosser will meet with city and county officials later today to collaborate on how to address the issues being seen here going forward.
