Friday night marked the start of Yom Kippur and area police departments are keeping their patrols at local synagogues and other public places in the Hudson Valley.
Police say the added security is a precaution on the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. Security was increased at the start of the High Holy Days last week on Rosh Hashanah.
Officers are also on patrol at other public areas, including mass transit and shopping areas.
Police say there have been no specific threats.
