Police across the Hudson Valley are stepping up security for the start of Yom Kippur.
The holiest day of the year for the Jewish community begins this evening.
The increase comes after vandals struck at a synagogue in Brooklyn last week during Rosh Hashanah.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo says state police will also be keeping a close eye on synagogues and religious centers across New York.
