Chief Judge Janet DiFiore now has extra protection after her name was found in the car of a lawyer who allegedly killed a judge's son and injured her husband in New Jersey.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo delivered the news Tuesday.
"I have directed the state police to provide security for our chief judge," he said.
Cuomo said the name, picture and address of DiFiore were found with Roy Den Hollander – a New York attorney who allegedly took his life Monday in Sullivan County. Investigators say he went to the New Jersey home of federal Judge Esther Salas on Sunday, shooting her husband and killing her son.
Den Hollander, who advertised himself on his website as an "anti-feminist lawyer," had a gender-equity lawsuit heard by Salas in 2015 and was critical of her in postings online.

DiFiore's team tells News 12 they are not aware if Den Hollander ever had a case in her courtroom, or why Hollander had her photo and information.
DiFiore served as state Supreme Court justice for three years, then Westchester County district attorney for nearly a decade. In 2016, Gov. Cuomo tapped her to lead New York state's highest court as chief judge of the state's Court of Appeals.
As district attorney, DiFiore focused on reducing crime, child fatalities and abuse, and how to streamline investigations of violent crimes.
As a judge, she established a mental health court and a sex offender court.
Officials say her connection to Den Hollander is unclear.
According to Den Hollander's website, he led a number of anti-feminist cases, including one against ladies' nights in bars and clubs.
He said women paying less than men was unconstitutional, and he referred to the Violence Against Women Act as the Female Fraud Act.
