Federal agents descended on two Mount Kisco buildings in search of a convicted criminal and wound up arresting 26 illegal immigrants.
Homeland Security officials say the action on Monday was not a raid, but a targeted investigation. Officials say federal agents were looking for Estanslao Lopez, convicted felon that had a removal order for deportation. Agents didn?t find Lopez, but did arrest 20 men who did not have proper documentation. Agents searched a home Thursday looking Lopez again, did not find him and arrested six more illegal aliens.
Officials say at least six of the men had criminal convictions. Some of the others were released pending a court appearance. One of the men released says the agents used ?Gestapo-like? tactics in the round up. Mount Kisco police are referring all inquiries to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
