The Lakeland Central School District superintendent is releasing new details about the school resource officer program.

As News 12 has previously reported, parents have been raising concerns about its future.

"This is a multi-faceted situation with many moving parts," said Dr. Karen Gagliardi, superintendent of the Lakeland Central School District.

Gagliardi addressed the issue Thursday evening - one that has been pressing for parents concerned about what the future holds for the program.

"Safety is our first priority, especially with our children," says Erica Tumscitz, who has children in the district.

News 12 has previously reported on funding concerns due to rising costs.

"Significant and unanticipated cost increases have placed the district in a very challenging position," says Gagliardi.

Despite that, the district's superintendent says there have been no final decisions regarding the structure of the security program going forward.

"We're evaluating all options to maintain a strong and effective security presence across the district," Gagliardi says.
