A former Scarsdale High School soccer star pleaded not guilty Tuesday to murder and kidnapping charges in the death of an alleged drug dealer.
According to a federal indictment, 29-year-old Andrew Zayac and Heriberto Gonzalez kidnapped a rival Bronx drug dealer in February, robbing him of marijuana. Police say Zayac and Gonzales fatally shot the man and dumped his body in Connecticut.
Investigators later obtained a search warrant for the Zayac family home on Bradley Road, where they say they found 50 pounds of marijuana.
This is not the first time Zayac, who graduated from Scarsdale High School in 1998, became entangled with the law. In 2000, he and two others were arrested by county police for allegedly possessing more than 1,000 ecstasy pills.
Federal prosecutors say if Zayac is found guilty of kidnapping and murder, he could face the death penalty. The trial in Zayac's case is set to begin in August.
