A family and their two cats are safe after a fast-moving fire threatened to destroy their Scarsdale home Sunday afternoon.
The flames reportedly sparked at the residence on Popham Road just before 4:30 p.m.
Firefighters from Hartsdale, Scarsdale, Greenville and Fairview responded to the scene within minutes.
Hartsdale Fire Department Chief Christopher Mytych said they were able to locate the fire in the attic. He said continuous water supply and the fire hydrant right in front of the house were vital in dousing the flames within minutes.
Mytych said the homeowners reported that a large tree limb had fallen earlier in the day before they noticed lights flickering in the house.
He explained that firefighters noticed that the masthead with the electrical service going to the house was compromised. As a result, they believe that the cause of the fire was electrical.
No injuries were reported and the home was not completely destroyed.
