Students at the John A. Coleman School received an early holiday treat Friday with a special visit from Santa Claus.

The John A. Coleman School in White Plains is a community program serving children with special needs and is located on the same site as the Children’s Rehabilitation Center.

"A lot of our families don't get out much to bring their children,” said Maria Leitenberger, the school’s principal. “So this is a good opportunity for our children to experience the Christmas spirit."

Santa and his helpers arrived by fire truck thanks to the White Plains Fire Department. During their visit, they handed out toys to the students and patients.

News 12 is told that Santa’s visit is a White Plains holiday tradition that began over 40 years ago.
