The Salvation Army kicked off its annual red kettle drive at the Palisades Mall on Friday.
Shoppers got the first renditions of Christmas carols from a six-piece band playing in the mall's center court. The band is part of a larger ensemble that plays for the Salvation Army's weekly services.
The performance was meant to call attention to the donations needed to fund the organization's programs.
Other Salvation Army representatives will be showing up around the area in coming days. They will collect donations Monday through Saturday until Christmas Eve.
News 12 has learned that the Salvation Army band will be playing at the mall most Fridays and Saturdays until Christmas.
