A Rye woman is recounting the recent Indonesian earthquake and its hundreds of aftershocks while she and her family were volunteering at an orphanage on the island.

At least 105 people are confirmed dead from the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that rocked the island.

Boukje van den Bosch Skyped with News 12 from the Lombok orphanage as 80 children, including her own, slept outside in fear that more aftershocks would cause their buildings to collapse.

None of the children from the orphanage were hurt, but three of four buildings were destroyed, as well much of the island, with many people still missing.

Boujke says she's just trying to get the kids back to some normalcy and to not live in fear.

"The kids all cleared out three classrooms and all of the kids felt comfortable surrounded by walls this morning, so my children did a little art class and a little English class," she says.

She says she plans to leave Indonesia on Friday, but still doesn't know when those children - who range in age from 16 months to 18 years old - will be able to sleep or shower inside.

The Indonesian government estimates 20,000 people are in need of help, with around 80 percent of buildings destroyed.
