As millions of Syrian refugees continue to flee their war-ravaged country, local Jewish leaders are speaking out in support of their plight.
Rabbi Daniel Gropper, of Community Synagogue of Rye, says he and a group of rabbis are calling on President Barack Obama to let 100,000 more refugees into the country.
The U.S. announced last week that it plans to allow 10,000 refugees into the country over the next year, but critics say more should be done to help.
Gropper says his group came up with the slogan, "Hear the call, be the call" in reference to the Jewish ram horn used on Rosh Hashanah.
He says they hope it inspires others to let their voices be heard to get the attention of politicians and the local community to do something to help the refugees.
