The village of Rye Brook is suing Port Chester.
The suit, filed in New York State supreme court on Tuesday, comes after Port Chester officials fired eight paid firefighters last week to help balance the village budget.
In the suit, Rye Brook says Port Chester violated their contract for shared fire services. Per the contract, Rye Brook pays Port Chester nearly $1 million each year for a paid Port Chester firefighter to staff the Rye Brook fire station for a 12-hour overnight shift each night. The municipalities have shared that position since 2013.
Rye Brook says that the firings eliminated the position in question. Village officials want that position back and to be paid back for the money Rye Brook used to man that shift and for legal and overtime fees.
