A Rye Brook police officer will see his dream come true when he runs in the New York City Marathon this Sunday.
When Abel Taveras isn't protecting others, he's hitting the pavement.
His co-workers say he doesn't look like a runner, but that can't stop him.
"They don't understand that runners come in all different shape and sizes and creeds and stuff like that but yes, I am a runner," says Taveras.
He'll prove it by taking on his first marathon this Sunday.
"I've always watched it on television, that Sunday morning, marathon day," he says.
According to his training plan, he is right on track, having traveled 20 miles in his latest run.
"It was from New Rochelle into Scarsdale into Mamaroneck, from Mamaroneck you go to White Plains, from White Plains you go to Harrison and from Harrison I'd end up at my headquarters in Rye Brook, and then I did it all the way back," he says.
But he's not only running the 26.2 miles for himself, he's doing it to reaffirm his commitment to others.
He's collected more than $4,000 dollars along the way for the Jimmy V Foundation to beat cancer.
"I wanted to do it for one where they're going to be doing something really good with the money," he says.
