An Orange County YMCA is finding an unusual way to raise money for a good cause.
A six-foot rubber duck was raised above the Hudson River in Newburgh yesterday to promote the YMCA of Middletown's attempt to break a world record. They'll be trying to pack over 20,000 rubber ducks in the YMCA's pool on Sept. 20.
It's effort is part of the "Save the Last Lap" campaign to renovate the Y's outdated pool. The new pool is expected to cost $1.2 million.
People can participate by buying a duck for $25. "It's going to feel amazing to know that we were able to be a part of that and hopefully this duck will be a fixture in that pool," says Charlie Graham, of Volume Creative.
So far, organizers say they've raised over $300,000.
