Officials are asking Rockland County to be on scam alert as we get closer to the Fourth of July weekend when buying patriotic merchandise.
The Rockland County Office of Consumer Protection says scammers are using the “America 250) branding to sell fake merch online.
That includes shirts, hats, wreaths and other collectibles. In many cases, the products will arrive looking nothing like the advertisement.
Some items might not arrive whatsoever.
Officials are asking residents to remember that if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Consumers should make sure the company they buy from is legitimate. This means checking the website URL carefully and looking for reviews and complaints.
Officials say if you do end up purchasing an item, to use a credit card, so that if an item ends up being part of a scam, you can dispute the transaction.
