Rockland County Executive Ed Day laid out his proposed $772 million spending plan in New City Thursday.
While the proposed budget includes only a 2 percent property tax increase, it also proposes to wipe out 180 county jobs over two years, resulting in $6.8 million in savings.
The layoffs include 37 members of the Sheriff's Office Patrol Division.
Day, a former NYPD officer, says the move is aimed at eliminating duplicated police services.
The county executive will be hosting two town hall forums to discuss his proposed budget. The public is encouraged to attend.
