The Rockland County Sheriff's Office says it is making efforts to combat accidents involving texting and driving.
According to statistics, approximately 25 percent of yearly accidents in the United States involved people texting.
A driving simulator located at the Rockland County Police Academy demonstrates how texting while driving causes accidents.
The Rockland County Traffic Safety Board is currently raising money to buy a portable driving simulator for use at area high schools.
They hope use of the simulator will show young drivers the dangers of texting behind the wheel, so they will refrain from doing it while actually driving.
