Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano has reappointed Robert Sweeney as acting Yonkers fire commissioner.
The former commissioner for the Yonkers Fire Department recently served as chief of staff for the FDNY. He first served as Yonkers fire commissioner from 2012 to 2014.
Sweeney, who spent 35 years with the FDNY, replaces John Darcy. Darcy will now serve as assistant chief.
In January, Darcy was suspended from the department for a week after a physical altercation with a fire lieutenant at a company holiday party.
Sweeney is expected to start as acting commissioner Thursday. His nomination will be presented in the coming weeks to the Yonkers City Council for final confirmation as commissioner.
A spokesperson for the mayor says Darcy resigned a few weeks ago and wanted to return to the line. When that position opened up, Sweeney returned to Yonkers.
