The light to moderate snowfall Saturday didn't stop many residents in Westchester and the Hudson Valley from heading out to enjoy the wintry weather.
Allister Cooper came from New York City to Nyack to spend the day with his family. They got an early start at La Fontana Family Restaurant for some warm food with a snowy view.
"The alternative was attempting to entertain these toddlers inside, so…we came up from the city for ideal winter-like conditions," said Cooper.
DPW crews throughout the area deployed salt spreaders on local roads and highways to keep commuters safe throughout the day.
Some residents opted to take mass transit where trains were running on schedule.
Some residents filed into hardware stores, eager to buy shovels, salt and sand. News 12 was at Lowes in Yonkers, where shoppers seemed excited about the first snowfall of the season.
"I'm really enjoying the White Christmas," said Hibika Honda, of Scarsdale.
Some areas of Westchester saw about 5 inches of snow during the storm.
