A retired FDNY firefighter from Rye lost his battle with a 9/11-related cancer.

Kevin Nolan served for years at Bronx Engine Company 79 and retired in 2007. He was a member of the FDNY for almost 20 years.

Daniel Nigro, the head of the FDNY, released a statement saying in part, "It's incomprehensible that after losing 343 members during 9/11 that more than 200 have lost their lives in the years since from 9/11-related illnesses."

Nolan's death comes as the fight over the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund continues in Washington. On Tuesday, Sen. Rand Paul blocked a bill to expand support for the 9/11 first responders and their families. saying it was too expensive.

A wake for Nolan will be held Friday. He will be laid to rest on Saturday.
