As cities across the Garden State brace for Tuesday's extreme cold, residents in East Orange say they're experiencing little to no heat or hot water at the apartment building on the 100 block of South Clinton Street.
There are about 40 units in the building, including residents who say they haven't had this issue since the property managers, West of Hudson Properties, took over a few years ago.
Residents told News 12 they've been layering up in their homes over the last two weeks because of the cold and they can't use more than one space heater without blowing the circuit.
They say when they call West of Hudson Properties, a representative tells them there's been a boiler issue and they're working to get it fixed and they aren't being told who the current landlord is.
The City of East Orange has been aware of the issue and sending code enforcement officers to the building. However, residents say officers will only check the temperature and report it.
City officials told News 12, "The landlord has been summoned multiple times, and the department of code enforcement has mandated that a temporary boiler be installed immediately."
