Emotions are still running high after a controversial Kiryas Joel land deal was approved in Monroe.
Community activists say they plan to file a lawsuit to block the decision by Monroe officials to approve Kiryas Joel's request to annex 164 acres of town-owned land.
The town board denied a broader request that would have granted the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community up to 507 acres.
Kiryas Joel leaders say they're disappointed that the larger annexation didn't go through.
Critics say the village's growth will cripple the county, and that the vote was something they hoped their protests would prevent.
